Estralita: A Timeless Classic Yacht Overview

Transferable Liveaboard Slip

Few classic or antique yachts are worthy of the investment for full restoration. It takes a special yacht to fit that bill, and “Estralita” (her original build name) is one of them. Designed as a one-of-a-kind “one-off” and built as a blue water cruiser and liveaboard in 1950 at Gig Harbor, Washington by the Northwest’s premier yacht designer Ed Monk Senior, Estralita was spared no expense and has been meticulously maintained and restored. She was and still is a “super yacht” of the golden age of Northwest yachting.

Design and Construction

Estralita was designed and built for Ed Monk’s good friend and aircraft flying buddy Art Glein. Together, they constructed a boat house and yard (Glein Boatworks) specifically for her construction in Gig Harbor. The duo employed all of Monk’s design genius and skills, resulting in a true work of nautical art and a premier example of Northwest maritime history at the height of wooden shipbuilding craftsmanship. Monk’s “heavy construction” technique utilizes double ribbing/beam construction out of white oak, double hull thickness in yellow cedar, teak decking and interior, and ironwood rails. Her reverse raked elliptical design with the only canoe transom in Monk Senior’s extensive design fleet is shown off in her deep draft, tall windows, graceful mid-century lines, and rounded stern deck. Unlike most “lake yachts” with 2-3’ drafts, she is built more like a small ship with a 6’8” draft designed for blue water.

Location

Estralita is currently moored at a covered Seattle Lake Union liveaboard slip that is close to everything in Seattle, including one block to Burke Gilman Trail, restaurants and cafes, Amazon and downtown, UW campus is walking distance, and fully transferable. The slip is south-facing, gets plenty of sun, and has a nice view. Also comes with a comprehensive maintenance contract if you’d like someone else to take care of the brightwork.

During a 10-year restoration, Estralita has had all interior restored, all services upgraded, hull refastened, and a number of planks replaced above the waterline, starboard ironwood rub rail replaced, and all her work has been accomplished to a professional standard with traditional methods and materials. Her decks (planked teak) are original while the only addition to her design is the Irish felt canvas with rubberized waterproofing coating her cabin. She’s in impeccable original and restored condition, a true work of art. She has retained, with few exceptions, all her original interior and exterior hardware, attachments, lighting fixtures, engine, etc. There have been but few alterations in her layout.

The Tartan 412 features a long waterline medium displacement hull form with fullness in the ends. Coupled with firm U-shaped sectionsthe 412 will offer performance easily realized by the short handedcruiser and appreciated by the racing sailor. The even distribution of hull volume produces a shape which stays uniform andbalanced as the boat heels.

Two keels are offered, a deep fin (7’6″, 7600 lbs.) and a shoaldraft Scheel (TM) keel (5’1″, 7600 lbs.). The ballast is carriedlow giving the 412 the ability to comfortably utilize her powerful sailplan. A balanced spade rudder, on a properly sized 304 stain­less steel shaft, offers both low resistance and maximum control.

The tall masthead, double spreader, tapered rig features a large mainsail and high aspect ratio fore triangle for easy sail handling. The rig offers balanced sail sizes with a large main for goodperformance offwind and efficient headsail proportions for tight upwind tacking angles. Mainsail sheeting is on a housetop traveler and the headsail is sheeted to adjustable inboard genoa tracksfor upwind work and a rail mounted track for reaching and running.

The Tartan 412 deck design anticipates frequent short-handed sailing and is engineered for safety and comfort with styling an important consideration. All sail controls are led to housetop winches andrope clutches, including single line reefing allowing the main
to be shortened from the co*ckpit. Double rails, lifelines anda tall teak rail offer crew security on her wide side decks and large foredeck. The co*ckpit is angled and contoured to offer com­fortable seating both at the dock and sailing. The helm position offers a raised hump seat for excellent forward visibility. Twolazarette hatches and a seat hatch provide ample access to co*ckpit storage

Forward and aft staterooms, each served by a private head, highlight the accommodation plan. The forward cabin berth is 6 1 8″ long and 6’9″ wide with abundant storage in drawers, lockers and shelves. Ventilation forward is provided by two dorades, two 7″xl0″ venthatches and the 24″x24″ foredeck hatch. The aft cabin adjoinsa full head with separate stall shower and boasts a 6’7″x6’0″ berth, ample storage and excellent ventilation. All bunk cushions are6″ firm foam.

In the main cabin, a drop leaf, adjustable table with satin varnish is flanked by a U-shaped settee to port and two over-stuffed chairs to starboard. Lockers outboard with large storage areas, liquor locker and an entertainment cabinet complete the main cabin.

On the way forward to the pilothouse, the AC/DC panel is to your stbd side, and gives control over most of the ships systems from that panel. Volt meters and amp meters are included too. In the same location in the Outback Inverter Remote Control Panel. Up into the pilothouse, there is a large dinette to port, with a Corian table to provide ample seating for guests accompanying the captain while under way. Under the seating is more large volume storage, with a storage bin forward of the seating for binoculars etc. The helm seat is very comfortable, and the helm offers easy vessel control with all the necessary elements, including windlass controls. The pilothouse windows are large, and provide an excellent view for the helmsman while under way, or docking from inside. There is a set of stairs leading from the pilothouse to the flybridge, that are wide, that are easy to get up due to width of steps, and a solid handrail on the left side of the stairs.

Once on the flybridge, you find the upper helm with full controls to run the boat from, windlass control included. New in 2017, the Garmin GPS map 7610 XSV and the Standard Horizon VHF radio. At the helm is a large bench seat for two, and to stbd, another single chair for a guest. Back onto the aft deck/co*ckpit, and you can access the lazarette with extremely easy access to the steering gear and fuel tanks, then forward into the engine room. Kohler genset is to stbd, and house batteries are to port, with both aft of main engines. Mains are low hour Volvo Penta TAMD 63’s with port at 805hrs, and stbd at 795hrs. Outback inverter, thruster battery bank, and Raritan hot water heater are all forward of the stbd engine. There is a small access to master stateroom in the forward engine room bulkhead. Outboard of the port engine, it the hydraulic steering plumbing with reservoirs, and the autopilot hydraulic pump.

The aft deck table allows for seating for four on the settee, and add a few deck chairs to increase capacity. There is easy side deck access to the foredeck(bow), where one can have a glorious afternoon nap in the sun on the sunbed area, or just lounge with friends. There is also a stainless and teak staircase located on the starboard side of the aft deck, leading to the boat deck and flybridge above. The large stainless and glass sliding salon entry doors, make moving from the aft deck into the salon a breeze, especially with luggage etc.

Inside the salon, you find yourself in a very accommodating space, with seating for at least 8 people. There is a good size flat screen TV forward and slightly to starboard, which allows all to have a good view of the screen on movie night. The salon table folds in half for ease of movement, and opens to allow for plenty of serving space when entertaining or eating a meal. It is also lowered and raised by an electric motor system. The flow through the salon and up to the lower helm and galley area works very well, and there is an extremely good amount of natural light from the large salon windows which also have excellent coverings for privacy when needed. You have all entertainment equipment located in the salon for ease of use, and custom full surround sound speakers (co*ckpit/aft deck too) for that theater experience.

Once up the stairs, you find the galley to your right(starboard), and it is very well equipped and easy to use. Fridge and freezer are drawer style, and located under the countertop on the aft inboard side of the galley, thus allowing for a lot more counter space to prep all of your favorite dishes when entertaining. A stove top, oven/microwave oven, loads of counter space and dual stainless steel sink provide everthing you need to let your creative culinary juices flow! There is also a wine cooler aboard to make sure you have chilled wine on hand, and room left in your fridges for food! The galley is directly behind the lower helm, making it easy to provide drinks and food to anyone on watch during passage making, or for watch keepers to help themselves while the autopilot steers the vessel.

The lower helm provides full control of the vessel, and from a comfortable position too. New forward windows in 2015 give great visibility to the pilot, and is more comfortable in cooler cruising climates. Needless to say, closer to the galley too! From the lower helm, there is a curved staircase aft and to port, which allows the pilot and other crew quick access to the flybridge. From the flybridge, once again the pilot has full control of the vessel, and a commanding view of surroundings, especially when manouvering. There is a high quality canvas bimini top to protect from the sun in summer, and plenty of comfortable seating for guests to spend time with whoever is piloting the vessel. There is also a wet bar, fridge, icemaker and BBQ to entertain with ease from atop. The 12ft Rendova dinghy with 30hp 4s Honda is stored on the boat deck. This is launched and retrieved with 1000lb Nick Jackson hydraulic davit system with remote control. There is also a stainless slinding hatch to the aft and starboard side of the boat deck, which gives access to the stairs to the aft deck.

Head back down the stairs to the lower helm, and there is curved stairwell, that leads to the accommodation. Once down the stairs, you will find and large and well appointed master stateroom, with island large queen, and full en-suite head. There is ample storage for extended cruising. The VIP up forward (V Berth) is also an island queen, and has more than enough storage space forvisiting guests, or family members. This too is en-suite with full head. The third stateroom has twin bunks, and is a great option for the younger members on the family, or visiting guest party. All staterooms have new TV’s with sat TV and stereos. The entire vessel is heated by the Kabola diesel fired furnace, and has four separate zones.

Back out on the aft deck again, and the lazarette can be accessed from a hydraulic deck hatch. Once inside there is excellent access to the Northern Lights 12KW genset, with approximately 350hrs on it. The Kabola diesel furnace system is located here, and easily accessible for service work. Go through a water tight door, and you are into a very open, and well laid out engine room. The low hour twin Yanmar 6CXM-GTE2 440hp (each) engines show well, and it is easy to see the level of maintenance. These engines are well know for their reliability, and push Caribbean Cruise along at a comfortable cruising speed of 12-15 knots, with a top end of 21 knots. These are also very fuel efficient engines, and at 1900rpm, you are burning about 6 gallons per engine, per hour, and this is thanks in part to the Nibral 4 blade High Skew(high performance) props that she has. Additional features include stabilizers and a Side Power bow thruster system. All batteries were replaced in 2014 to include all start, house, and thruster batteries. There is also a Glendinning shower power cable retrieval system, so you don’t have to coil up the cord each time you leave the dock.

Sparcraft in Cape Town built the rig from two 11 metre lengths of appropriate Aluminium sections and while the design called for a 21 metre high mast, discarding a metre from one of the sections did not appeal to us so we contacted Dudley to see if we could just join the two sections and have a 22 metre high mast which we thought would look better. Dudley had no issue with the idea as long we stuck religiously to the rest of the plan and changed nothing else. We in fact did change one thing, when we did our first sea trials it became apparent that we would need extra support for the extra length at the top of the mast so we introduced a pair of jumper stays which are a great improvement all round and the mast holds up really well, having done two Atlantic crossings in absolute comfort. Standing rigging is stainless steel Dyeform wire.The boom is also built in Aluminium with haystacks and lazy jacks with a separate cover. The self tacking jib is on a rope fed Profurl furler.

Sails:

We chose North Sails South Africa for this project and they produced a very efficient suit of sails, the self tacking Genoa and fully battened mainsail with its three deep reefing points drive the boat easily, we found when ocean crossing that an extra reef hardly affected speed through the water but made the ride much more comfortable and the autopilot coped so much better. There is a storm jib/trinquette combination sail which can be reefed and set in two different modes depending on the wind strength and this sail is set on a separate stay set up when required without too much effort at all. We found it efficient when going dead downwind in breeze to set the furling Genoa to one side and the Trinquette on the other and leave the mainsail down. The Autopilot loved this set up and the boat went along fine at eight plus knots in twenty knots or so of wind. We also had a fairly heavy Asymetrical spinnaker made which really pulls the boat along when one wants to make more miles per day. This is set on a bridle system off two mini bowsprits and the bridle can be flown well to either side as required as it is controlled via the winches and jammed off in the desired spot. Without undue pushing or racing, we found Friends Forever to average 166 miles per day over the two Atlantic crossings we did from Cape Town to St Martin and then from St Martin to Spain. The Autopilot did 90% of the steering on the second passage with only my wife and I on board, steering when we did, for fun.

Propulsion:

We decided to install two 55 D Volvo Sail Drives Installed under the bunks of the aft cabins and they are fuelled by tanks installed in the aft section of the boat situated higher than the engines so the fuel is gravity fed to the motors. These 68 litre tanks are monitored with fuel gauges and gravity filled from the larger, 400 litre fuel tanks situated just forward of the mast. The two Volvos are more than enough power and can propel the boat at ten knots plus if really needed. At 1800 revs we cruise at around eight knots in calm waters. Fuel consumption is around two and a half litres per hour, per motor.

Accommodation:

A boat this size can be configured to “sleep” many passengers but we decided to have one larger “owner’s side” to port and two cabins in the starboard hull. This leaves room up front on the single cabin port side for a utility room where we installed the generator and water maker in very practical situations so that working with and maintaining is done easily, something we considered of paramount importance, so often this type of equipment is installed in the most difficult and inaccessible places causing poor maintenance and stressful expense, not to mention lack of service. The other space available allows for an en-suite bathroom for this side which includes an enclosed shower, wash hand basin and electric toilet plumbed into the fresh water supply. On the port side the cabin is a little more spacious as there is no need for lockers as these are provided for amidships. The cabin has a small desk below a mirror which can be used as a workstation or other preparations. This cabin can be shut off from the rest by means of a sliding door which also serves to conceal the washing machine and dryer also situated in the amidships area. This part of the boat also houses four large drawers which are designed for longer term galley stocks when passage making. Forward of the utility room there is meaningful storage space for the many items needing to be put away safely when passage making. We have extra salon chairs, fishing rods, fuel cans, extra life jackets and so on. On the starboard side there are two cabins as mentioned, one aft is very similar to the port side except there is a cupboard with shelves and some hanging space and a vanity with a wash hand basin. Before the bed is a foot locker also as on the port side. Forward is the third cabin which is more than adequate, the only visible difference being that the bed is somewhat narrower than the aft ones. The cabin in most adequately fitted with cupboard space, footlocker and wash hand basin. Forward of the bed is a door leading to the bow section with huge storage for items not required on a daily or even weekly basis, for example those large empty suitcases people bring all that unnecessary stuff along in! Amidships we have an electric toilet also freshwater flushing with its own hand basin so the guests do not need to use the cabins to freshen up. On the forward side of the stairs we built in a large airy shower which is a real pleasure to use compared to many boats.

The saloon and galley area are really the piece de resistance on Friends Forever, being so large, airy and friendly. One can move around without having to disturb other shipmates with ease, the space being more like an apartment than a boat! The galley is fitted with a five burner gas stove and oven by Smeg and there is enough room to work and make magic. There is a twin bowled sink which could be larger but is actually adequate. Under the eight seater counter, offset to the port side are the galley refrigerator, freezer and the drinks fridge. The galley fridge and the freezer can be powered with 220 Volt shore power which eases up on the batteries, when possible. Starboard side we have an L shaped settee, loose coffee table and forward of that the chart table/desk. Large airy windows add to the overall impression of space and light. The aft co*ckpit is adequate and easily accommodates six for meals or co*cktails but is smaller than found on many other catamaran models but then that is why the saloon is so spacious, which we prefer.

Equipment :

Electronics. We chose Garmin for all the sailing electronic equipment and it has worked well for the 12000 odd miles we have sailed so far, there is a chart plotter at the helm station with autopilot alongside and the two are integrated which means the autopilot can be controlled from either. The autopilot machine is a rotary type which I rate very highly having used one right around the world without a moment’s trouble. In full view of the helm station are two displays which can be personally configured we have speed and depth on one and wind direction, strength etc. the two motor controls and dials are also there along with the binnacle magnetic compass. Above ones head we have mounted various gauges, fuel and water, electricity management DC and AC and the Lewmar AA 560 Auto Anchor control dial, which I must admit we have not mastered yet. Also mounted there is the control panel for the generator. The VHF radio is mounted on the left of the helm station, with the autopilot hand held control mounted next to it. On the right of the helm we have the Fusion dvd/cd player which has 8 speakers, 4 in the saloon, 2 at the foredeck and 2 for the aft co*ckpit, all of which can also be controlled in the master cabin.

Solar Panels. These are priceless items to have on board. We installed four large panels which keep the batteries well charged most of the time as it has to be a really cloudy day to seriously affect them negatively. We found that we needed to boost the batteries either by some motoring every week or so or by using the 220Volt battery charger when running the generator which should preferably be done after dark for best results, when the solar panels are dormant.

Deck gear. We chose Lewmar for the deck hatches and for the deck hardware and running blocks and all the running rigging and sheets are controlled from the centre co*ckpit in front of the centrally placed helm station by means of two very powerful Electric Lewmar winches and a series of well placed jammers, 21 in total, all led towards the winches. At first one might be sceptical but with a little practice the system is understood and much appreciated because it works. My wife and I sailed the boat very easily across the North Atlantic in twenty days from St. Martin to Gibraltar. The custom made Dinghy davits are operated by means of a Lewmar 45 hand powered winch which also serves as a strong point aft of the vessel in case of need.

Generator. We have a 9,4 KVA Westerbeke generator in a sound proof casing mounted at waist height in the Utility Room for ease of service and maintenance. So far it has been more than adequate for our needs.

Water Maker. We chose Sea Recovery, the Aqua Whisper Mini 750 which makes us superb water at the rate of about 30 US gallons per hour. This is a 220 volt machine powered by the generator. The unit self back washes one weekly when connected to shore power and the water pressure has to be on.

Air Conditioning. This is an area where we went more than big! There is a total of 75000 BTU of air conditioning power on board, 16000 for each aft cabin and 43000 for the saloon. The forward cabin does not have a dedicated unit but will cool down with the saloon area adequately unless the cabin door is closed.. We used Cruisair marine air conditioners from the USA, to say they are efficient is an understatement, the boat cools down in minutes.

Tender. Gemini Inflatables from Cape Town supplied our 3,8 metre semi rigid with an aluminium bottom panel, ideal for when beaching or hitting hard objects, powered by a 15 Horse Power Mercury four stroke motor which puts the tender easily up on to a plane with two passengers on board. Good for squeezing up to six for a slower ride to the Taverna.

Water. The boat carries an impressive 900 litres of water in two stainless steel tanks which can inter connect or be separate, one serving the Port hull, the other Starboard, each with own pressure pump, i.e. two systems. Each hull has a hot water system heated either with the motors running or with 220 Volts when connected to shore power or by running the generator.

Fuel. There are two stainless fuel tanks each carrying 400 litres, gravity feeding fuel to two more 65 litre tanks situated in close proximity to the motors. We believe it is a good thing to have the fuel close to the motors and also higher, so the fuel gravity feeds to the motors. The total fuel therefore is 930 litres, enough to motor around 1300 miles or so. Having said that our motors have only 450 hours each after two years and 11000 miles so this is really a great sailing catamaran!

From the pilothouse/galley area, one can go forward to the accommodation down the stairs with its lighted handrail and steps, or to the flybridge. SOo it’s off to the staterooms we go! As you descend the carpeted stairs (with accent lights) to the accommodation, you will see the custom wood with compass rose and dolphin inlay landing, at the foot of the stairs. It is an absolute work of art, and needs to be seen to be comprehended. Once down the stairs, turn to your right, and you can go forward to the VIP stateroom with it’s island queen berth, large storage, and en-suite head and shower. From the VIP, going aft, one has the guest/day head and shower to your right (portside), and then aft of the head is the Guest stateroom with twin berths. It has a door from the guest stateroom into the guest/day head for added privacy. Going further aft and one walks straight in the very spacious and elegant Master stateroom. With a large island king berth, settee to port, and a desk to starboard, you will be amazedat the true opennessof this stateroom. To the aft side and outboard of each side of the bed, is a his and hers almost walk-in cedar lined clothes closets, with full length mirrors. ” ROSEBUD” IS A “MUST SEE” TRAWLER. A 1979 38′ SEA CHIEF CONQUEST IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH ONLY 845 ORIGINAL ENGINE HOURS ON A WELL KEPT LEHMAN DIESEL.

This 1979 38′ Sea Chief Conquest Trawler, has spent a large portion of it’s life under cover, and it shows. All the interior joinery is in great condition, and has recently been oiled. The salon is extremely bright from the ample surrounding windows letting in natural light.

From sliding salon doors on the port aft side and forward stbd side of the salon, you can enter into a very spacious salon, up galley and lower helm area. There is a double stainless sink, a butcher block counter top over the fridge, and a 3 burner electric stove and oven. The galley area abounds with storage for dry supplies, crockery and cooking utensils. To the portside, there is a dining table and seating, enough to seat 8 with extra chairs.

Forward and to stbd, is the lower helm station, with engine controls, Raytheon 16 mile radar, Garmin GPSmap 498 chartplotter, depthfinder, compass, windlass control, VHF radio with loud hailer, a Standard Stereo system, and electrical supply panel for both 110VAC and 12VDC systems. An off-air TV antenna is attached to the mast for better TV reception. There is also a foot rest for the helmsman while at this station.

Forward of the salon, and down the stairs you have the forward V berth, anden-suitehead and shower. The V berth has a sliding door system to allow complete privacy from the rest of the boat. There is a hanging locker to stbd, and plenty of storage space under the berth. To either side of the bed, are shelves for additional storage. From this V berth, there is also access to the chain locker. The head to port, had a marine toilet, sink and marble counter top, a shower, and plenty of storage space.

Aft of the salon, and down a short set of stairs, is the extremely spacious master stateroom. Once again, plenty of storage space and hanging lockers, with a head to port side, and the shower to stbd. There is a marble counter top with basin in both head and shower units. The Master has the added bonus of having all the aft super structure windows, so also has a ton of natural light. Also nice to see an older trawler with very minimal water staining around window trims etc.

Both staterooms have overhead hatches to let in air and light while on anchor. There is an external (deck mounted in a sound shield box)2.2KW Honda generator that runs flawlessly, to provide ample 110ZVAC power while at anchor. The engine compartment, shows a well kept, neat and clean space, and you can see the 120hp Lehman diesel (only 845 hours!!) has been well taken care of. Underneath the engine, is an easily accessible and clean bilge. There is a racor fuel filtration system aft of the engine, and a battery charger forward and to stbd of the engine. Batteries (new 2014) are either side of the engine. There is surprisingly little in the engine space, so systems guys have a clean slate to work with.

The exterior of the vessel is very clean, with the super structure looking good having been painted in 2014. All the teak decking shows that it has spent years undercover, and is in great shape. Handrails are all in excellent shape. There is a bimini top in like new condition, that stretches over almost the entire fly bridge deck. All of the stainless handrails are solid and intact. There is a 30amp shore supply inlet to the stbd side, just forward of the lower helm sliding door. Up forward, there is a 12VAC electric windlass with a foot switch. Off of the rail on the portside of the aft deck, there is a stainless BBQ for those summer days on anchor. There is also teak steps on the transom, allowing access to the teak swim step.

Overall, “Rosebud’s” condition for a 1979 trawler is very refreshing, and will win over her new owner’s hearts. She is well worth a visit, to get to know her.

Wehl Built

1999 53ft Custom North Sea Trawler!! This is a must see vessel, ready to be made yours. Keel cooling for all systems, makes this vessel easy to operate and maintain. Built in South Carolina at Fazzio Boatyard, designed by Tom Colvin, “Cynthia”has 1/4″ hull plates below the waterline, and 3/16” above the waterline. Superstructure is all 10 gage mild steel. The keel is 1″x7″solid bar stock steel, and runs all the way past the prop to protect the prop and anchor the lower end of the rudder shaft.

The Detroit 160 hp 4-71 diesel fires first turn, and purrs like a kitten, as does the 15kw Isuzu generator. The transmission on the Detroit is a Twin Disc MG-509, and shifts flawlessly. 2 1/2″ drive shaft with a 32″ bronze prop. A hydraulic anchor winch is powered by a 10hp hydraulic pump system located in the engine room. All batteries are Rolls. All wiring is marine grade, tinned copper wire. Boat is wired for shore power, and has an inverter. Navigate safely with all Furuno electronics.

Forward stateroom has two single bunks, with storage under them, there is also a hanging locker for additional storage. There are two overhead hatches for ventilation. Just aft of the forward stateroom, there is full size head with large shower, sink, washing machine, and behind paneling, a 20 gallon water heater.

Aft and to port, there is a single berth, with underside storage as well as another hanging locker. Under floorboards you will find the two water tanks and blackwater tank.

Up the stairs into the pilothouse with aft settee, helm station with electronics. There is more storage under the settee. On either side of the pilothouse, there are heavy duty 4-dog steel doors for access on both port and stbd sides. There is a large floor hatch through which engine room access is gained.

Aft stairs lead to the galley/salon area, where you will find granite countertops, large refrigerator, and storage. There is also a 4 burner electric range with oven, and a microwave. On the port side, there is a single bunk, with more storage. An aft heavy duty steel, 4-dog door gives access to salon from exterior, and provides ventilation. Aft water tank is located under the floor, as well as access to driveshaft bearing.

There are full walk around decks for ease of access all around the vessel. There is a second helm station atop the pilothouse roof. The vessel also has paravine stabilizers, with large fish that run around 16′ deep in rough conditions.

The owners have never spared any expense on gear or upkeep, and it shows. The bottom was completely stripped, and an epoxy barrier coat was applied. All the portlights in the entire vessel were also replaced in the last seven years. Knot Home really does not need much of anything (except your belongings to be able to go sailing today!

She has a good amount of deck space to work with, and the extension the original owner had built some years ago, is a fantastic add on, making boarding from a dinghy a breeze, or getting off the back with your dive gear. It also makes it easy to be able to climb back aboard after a swim, snorkel or dive. Lots of the deck gear is custom built stainless and it is very heavy duty, just what a world cruiser needs!

The interior is gorgeous teak, and well laid out. The owner had the aft stateroom area remodeled some years ago, and they did a really nice job on the joinery.
