Who was Nashville attorney Bart Durham?
Bart Durham was a lawyer born on March 5, 1935, in Ripley, Tennessee.
Bart got his first start in law after working under his father, B.C. Durham, who was also an attorney.
However, before his career in law, Bart served in the US Army and later studied at the University of Tennessee and Southern Law University in Memphis.
After passing the bar exam in 1963, Bart worked for his father. Soon after, he began working as a US Department of Justice prosecutor.

In 1969, Bart became a prosecuting attorney for the Tennessee Attorney General's Office.
There, he argued three cases before the United States Supreme Court.
Over the years, Bart became one of the most famous attorneys in Tennessee.
On April 9, 2024, Bart's family broke the news that the Nashville attorney passed away.

"It is with deep sorrow and a burdened heart that I share the news of the passing of my father, Bart Durham, a legendary figure in the local legal community and a beloved patriarch to our family," his son Blair said in a statement.
"Beyond being the founding force and public face of Bart Durham Injury Law, he was, at his core, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

"His tireless commitment to justice, unparalleled work ethic, and boundless generosity have left an enduring impact on our family, our firm, and the countless lives he touched."
Prior to his death, Bart suffered heart problems since 2006 and has been hospitalized four times.
However, Bart continued to do what he loved. As per his website, Bart said: "I’ll be here until I die. You go nuts with nothing to do. I’m still having a lot of fun being a lawyer."
What law firm does Bart Durham own?
In 1975, Bart Durham founded an injury firm under his name.
According to his website, the Nashville lawyer started his firm with "no clients, just a little bit of money saved, the optimism of youth and high hopes."
At the beginning stages of his business, Bart teamed up with Henry Haile, with whom he worked at the Tennessee Attorney General's Office.
Tom Moon, also a lawyer, gave Bart a free space to carry out his firm in exchange for going to court on Tom's behalf.

Bart quickly got on his feet and soon had his own office with a team of more than 30 people by 2024.
Before his death, Bart's face was seen across ads around the Nashville area.

Bart Durham was married to his longtime wife, Cindy, in December 2012.
Cindy, originally from South Korea, studied at Yonsei University before moving to the United States.
Now, Cindy sings in a choir in Southern California for her alma mater.
Together, the couple had two kids, Colin and Blair, who are married.
