Holy $hitballs look at the amount of dust on that interior. Good lord have mercy.

That right there is the definitive "I'm not motivated in the slightest" seller.

I think they could price it $1000 higher if they'd just get it detailed.

Condition: Fair

Not very confidence inspiring. Seems like a good deal from the little info provided but you'd need to inspect it for rust, flood damage, drivetrain, and all mechanicals first. Could be easy to sink another $5k in to it if it has issues. Or if you are handy with a wrench and have a source for used parts, could be up and going with a new top, detailing, brakes, shocks, radiator and a tune up for under $1k.

This car looks like it has not been driven for a while judging by all the undisturbed dust in the interior. Looks like wood brake handle is missing, too. Yes, lots of potential. Potentially very costly if the car is not currently running.

95M didn't come with the wood bits from the factory. I owned a 95M for 9.5 years.

For 2,500, even if it was a basket case, the $$$ would be recouped in a part out.

This. ^^^.

Flash 20 Benjamins in the owners face and you'd probably take it home. I would if I were in Phoenix now instead of two weeks from now :-(

Even at the asking price, assuming the body/paint is good under that dust, this is an opportunity IMHO.

OH this just has to have a story!!!!

Everything looks straight and undamaged, even the BBS wheels we can see don't seem to have external weights.

However, look at the one pic of the close up of the BBS. Does the driver's fender right behind it look rusted or damaged? I guess with 100K plus miles the lower fender could have road rash.

Apparently the car has been sitting a long while. I just hope it has been inside that garage / warehouse all along.

It does have the original Nardi shift knob, that in itself is worth 10% of the total asking price ;) .

Someone call the seller. Someone go see it in person. This "might" be too good to be true.

OK, so the rear window is busted. Did they have a dust storm in their garage?

magujia

12th November 2015, 10:58

Called the owner...
rotted plastic window, antenna stuck up, windows don't go up, no rust, sitting in garage for 6 month, drain battery, no maintenance, other than oil changes and a new radiator (leaked after he flushed it), missing two bbs caps, had the car since 2000 with 35k miles.

probably just means carfax is not very up to date in this case (read: use this carfax with a grain of salt)

I think this can be a great deal, but do be prepared to spend some to fix it up. Definitely would be a fun experience to road trip back from AZ to TX (I did when I bought my Miata in September!)

Phoenix is a dusty place for a car, garaged or not.

Megujia, How did you get his phone number? I requested contact information via e-mail to see the car and all I got were questions to my questions, and no phone number. Judging by the appearance of the car and his response to my requests, he obviously doesn't know how to sell a car.

LOL that will go far.

I dont NEED to sell this car and I have turned down a few buyers who offered quite a bit more.

I've never had much luck trying to buy a car from an unmotivated seller. No offense against folks that are just casting out to see if there are any bites, but often these cars are on CL month after month.

LOL,several? Quite a bit more? Your asking price is only $50o higher, so how much $$ is "quite a bit more" than $2000 but less than $2500?

Just kidding with you. As I said in my original post, "...even at the asking price...this is an oppotunity". GLWS.

Maintenance history
Higher quality, well lit photographs
More detailed description of the car

The list goes on and on and on...

Your second post shows a smugness on your part, with an ask of $2,500, and someone offering you $2,000, that to me is a no brainer, as your car needs E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G gone through and redone to bring it up to even a daily driver condition.

New top ($500-$600)
Seats recovered ($1,350)
New tires ($550)
New Brakes ($300)
AC Compressor ($800 including charge and new belts and such)
New coolant hoses ($120)
New radiator ($150)
Timing Belt/Water Pump ($1,250)
Missing center caps ($200)
Paint? ($3,500 if it needs to be done)

Let's face it, there are turn key 95 Miata "M's" out on the market for $3,500-$4,200 in driver condition, currently on the road, and inspected. While yours shows a lack of love and proper maintenance, and as shown screams "I was ridden hard, and put away in the same condition".

Again, whether you have to sell it or not, you are the one that listed it on craigslist as being for sale. Certainly you do not believe you know everything the car really needs to get it safely back on the road, do you?

No, in my eyes, your ad shows a willingness to be vague, aloof, your pictures and your presentation showing a want to hide the true condition under the storage dust (perhaps storage in a bodyshop with all of that dust) and your responses to those that have inquired have not gone the way you wanted them to, as the car is still for sale.....

One such example ^^^^ as suggested by Mr. Mustang. At asking $3800/OBO, it could probably be bought for maybe $1000 more than the Phoenix example...and a better opportunity.

Safely back on the road?

The car is fully insured, registered, and recently was taken in (and easily passed) the emissions test.

There is a gentleman in this thread who is coming in from out of state to pick the vehicle up today. Maybe he will be willing to chime in and let everyone know how "vague and aloof" I was with him.

The car is still listed for sale but I have quit responding to requests regarding the car out of respect for the buyer who had already purchased plane tickets to view the vehicle.

I entered this thread with a little bit of a attitude and for that I apologize. But when I start getting emails from CL with a link to this forum saying my listing is getting a "beating" and then try to low ball me with an offer based off of the opinions of some anonymous internet posters, I tend to get a little pissy. The buyers who I thought were serious I supplied them with additional custom photos at their request.

Don't take this thread personally, it's a bunch of knowledgeable folks looking over your ad, and commenting on the car as presented to us on the web. It is our personal observations, and our opinions based on those observations that is seen here. You as the seller coming in and making comments as quoted does not always work out well, especially when what you posted in this thread, and what you posted in the for sale ad just don't add up. You being the seller, and having a vested interest means that you are slightly biased with your opinion. As such, the car sure does not look like it's been out recently, amazing how you could not disturb the dust on the seats and yet still get the car to and from inspection. Same goes for how thorough the inspection could be that they did not even disturb the dirt on the windshield or the lack of the hood being opened. Sure would love to see that one up close and in person

Hope the person flying out realizes what he/she is getting him/herself in to and is not just blinded by the car itself being cheap.

Still listed, even though a buyer has purchased plane tickets and is flying out today, I'd be a little upset if I was the buyer, as someone could show up with cash and snatch it out from under him(her) while they are still in the air.

Lowballers, I think if you spent a little more time and effort in presenting your ad better, you would have had a higher class of potential buyer pool. The way you set it up, you left yourself open to the bottom feeders of the internet. Usually cars presented such as yours are done so by 14-20 year olds (my apology to all 14-20 year olds who know how to market their cars properly) who feel their car is made of gold/unobtanium......if you are above that age group, then you did yourself and the car a disservice marketing it as you did.

For that price and if around my area, I would have considered it for purchase as I could so a lot of the maintenace myself. However, I would be leary of taking a car that hasn't run in awhile and drive it a significant distance.

Lobster70

16th November 2015, 17:20

For comparison:
Similar car, 10k fewer miles, hardtop, way less dust, $5500.
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5262254934.html

To me $2500 seems a steal if you don't mind the cleaning and maintenance work and can do much if it yourself. Otherwise, pay extra for a turn-key example. Hope both go to worthy owners!

I think $1250 for a tb/wp is excessive. As far as the car goes, $2500 isn't bad - just take it down to the detailing shop and let them clean up the car for $100.

Last time I purchased a Miata from a private party, it came with a receipt from a Mazda dealership in Washington, DC area with that exact figure (ok $1,252.68) for timing belt, water pump, coolant hoses, oil and filter change, coolant flush, and belts. All items you would normally have taken care of while having the timing belt and water pump changed out.

Cheapest TB/WB change I've paid for was $580 (even), and that was a local garage that did not change the hoses, acc belts, or do the fluid flushes
